Remembering "Lucky"

Post by ridgetop » Sun Nov 06, 2011 12:10 pm

If you guys remember from my last years deer hunt. We were after a big 3 point we named "Lucky" because of the many times we had a chance to take him but things never worked out. Here's a video from last year. At the end, (about the 2:00 minute mark) when he's standing on the skyline right at dark. This was the night before the rifle opener and the last time I saw him alive. I had a friend that thought he may have seen him this year on the archery hunt but was not sure because the buck he saw was not any bigger and maybe was a little smaller. I ended up hunting somewhere else this year because of a better buck I had seen elsewhere. After not finding anything in our "new spot", we decided to look for lucky and the cactus buck again. My friend Corby was in the right place at the right time and walked right into "Lucky" in the thick timber and got an 80 yard shot with his 270. It took about an hour to find him in all the deadfall. The buck put on a little more mass than last year but lost some length on his tines and put out a small cheater on his left G-2. He ended up right at 27" wide.
Here's the video from last years sightings and of him this year.

Cool video. I also remember last year. Very cool that you could go back and finally make it happen on him. He is a great looking buck 3 point or not!

Killing this buck was a lot of fun. I love being in the hills, especially with good friends. I want to say thanks to all my friends that helped me out. Strangely enough, Ridge top is the only one not in this photo I do however appreciate all the time he puts in every year. I cant wait till next year.
