My 2010 Wyoming Hunt

Post by mudford » Mon Nov 01, 2010 8:11 pm

I am from Michigan, and this was my first trip west for mule deer. I shot this deer on HMA property in Natrona County. He has a 30 1/2 inch inside spread. Yes, I know how lucky I am. We usually walked in close to three miles from the furthest parking area before daylight. We walked close to 8 miles a day in rugged terrain which is a lot of work for a flatlander. So I did work hard for him.

Thanks guys. I was just hoping to not come home empty handed. It was nice to top my cousin's buck. I was getting tired of his out of shape flatlander remarks. He shot his on Sunday, then I shot mine on Tuesday. He has been living in Casper for a couple of years now. He made my trip possible. He found us a place to hunt. It was too bad that he was so busy at work that he only got to hunt one day when I was out there. He made it count though. He shot his buck at 10AM. He was so far back in rugged terrain that he didn't make it back to the truck with everything until 6PM. I was surprised that we didn't see more hunters. It seemed like everyone either wanted to hunt from their truck or from a quad. This wasn't possible where we were and no one else was willing to walk, so we essentially had the whole area to ourselves. I wish my buddy that went out there with me would have had the chance to shoot one. I felt bad for him.

It is good to see some folks willing to work for a nice animal. If you hunt in a general tag area, getting away from the roads and ATVs brings you into big buck country.

Congrats!
