New Mexico Unit 2B Veteran Advice ???

Post by mid23 » Wed Aug 25, 2010 11:18 am

Hey board members. I am from Austin, TX and this is my first year to be drawn for an early rifle mule deer tag Oct 29 - Nov 3. Plan on a DIY hunt and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.. from where to setup camp, locations to glass, tactics (morning and evening), remote water sources, pros and cons of hunting north 2B vs south 2B. I know it's asking a lot when most big game hunters are able to spend days pre-scouting before the hunt. Just do not have the $$$ to spare... just happy to be going with a shoe string budget. Any advice would be great. Just do not want to waste time locating good hunting grounds and camp site.

I am originally from West Texas and have hunted desert mule deer near Fort Stockton since I was a pup. I figure the weather will still be warm when head up to NM to hunt. Thus, my plan of attack is to glass flats in the morning and sit on watering holes in the afternoon/evening. Please let me know if I should be doing something different.
