4th of July Paunsaugunt trip.

Post by JDavid » Mon Jun 20, 2011 4:01 pm

I am looking for some advice on where to head that has the highest chance of seening some deer. We drew out this year and I havent been to the area since I was a young buck. My uncle and I are just hoping to get familar with the area again.

I guess Im mostly looking for the areas to avoid this up coming weekend.

Thank you for any help you can give.

East Fork, as we call it down here. South of Tropic Reservoir, beautiful area with a HIGH chance of seeing several deer and possible some nice ones. Try any Canyon early morning or late evening. The main canyon has nice bucks that can be seen before dark or with a spotlight if you choose.

Probably be lots of people up that way, always is. Reunions etc.

Which tag did you draw?

I drew for the rifle hunt. I'm excited I have always wanted to hunt down there. I'm just getting into archery this year. I love it makes me wish I would have saved the points and started putting in for the archery hunt.

Depending on weather the deer may have moved off top where I told you, you'll have to move south towards Kanab if that's the case.

Yeah I know they move alot. I'm mostly just wanting to get away for the holiday. So I thought I would get familiar with the area. This trip will mostly be hitting the trails. When it gets closer to the hunt I will start to find some good areas to glass.

I wasn't able to make it down there. My uncle (who I drew out with) should be home in a week or so. so I'm going to head down then.
