Colorado Unit 62

Post by a3dhunter » Fri Oct 13, 2006 5:35 pm

Hello guys, I am new to this site and I am headed to unit 62 next week for a rifle hunt out of Montrose. I was wondering if any of you have hunted this unit and might be able to give some advice. I have been there and I am familiar with the unit, but have not had any success in finding a buck over 24" wide. Any ideas? Thanks.

Welcome to the site a3dhunter! If you were going to 65 I could maybe help you out, but I've never hunted in 62. Good luck to ya!
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.

I have thought about hunting 65 next year for archery elk, but I am not familiar with where to start scouting. I have a whole year to get ready for that though. I leave next thursday for montrose.

a3dhunter welcome.

First order of busness. I left a mule deer as seed this year during archery hunt. Do not bother him. See post "also back from colorado" for a picture. I took the deer in the picture next to my name in that unit also.

I have been in that unit for about 7 years now. see deer every year. Good place. But I would think that would depend on your location.

What direction are you going out of Montrose?

Advice right place at right time. I am not sure I have good advice other than hunt hard and smart.

I forgot to metion in my last post.

Drury Outdoors (http://www.druryoutdoors.com) has a video out called "Elk Madness 2" One of the segments is in unit 62 for elk. Infact in some of the footage you can see the land I hunt (now the secret spot is out). It might give you an idea of the land. What we hunt is a varity from Aspens to scrub oak, to pine, to grass. Just depends on what part of the property you hunt.

Have fun. I know I am having fun thinking about it.
