Welcome to big game hunting. The Wsm is a great choice for an all around gun. I myself am supporting a Winchester M 70 in .270 Wsm. The only problem I have found with it is that it just tears an anamial apart. I have killed a few deer and an elk with it and it doesn't seem to matter if you are shooting 130 gr bullets or 150 gr bullets. I have herd that the .300 WSM backs up on both ends. But other than the cost of shells there aint much else wrog with them.

Hey congrats on the elk. I have read a couple of articalson the new .325 WSM; But nothing about anybody hunting with one our neighborhood. I talked to a neighbor who builds rifles as a hobby. Last time I seen him he was talking about building a .325.

HEY GUYS. I HAVE A 300 WSM IN A WIN M70 FEATHERWEIGHT. I PUT AN H.S. PRECISION STOCK ON IT, BROKE IN THE BARREL LIKE I'VE DONE ON EVERY NEW RIFLE. 3 SHOTS, CLEAN WHILE WARM, LET COOL, REPEAT FOR 100 ROUNDS. TO THIS DAY I'VE PUT CLOSE TO 300 ROUNDS THROUGH IT, ALL FACTORY AMMO. I HAVE YET TO FIND ANY THING THAT PUTS OUT ACCEPTABLE GROUPS. THE BEST I'VE GOTTEN IS 2 TO 2-1/2 INCH GROUPS AT 100 YDS. ON THE OTHER HAND, I BOUGHT THE SAME EXACT RIFLE IN THE 270 WSM. NOTHING BUT 1/2" GROUPS @ 100 YDS. ANY SUGGESTIONS? ![Think :-k](./images/smilies/eusa_think.gif)

I don't get it. If this is your first year hunting with the 300wsm, how did you already tag an elk with it? Oh...... Sorry, I see there is a six month lag between your posts. As you have figured out, the 300wsm and 300win do the same thing. Nobody complains about them. Some people complain about the recoil, but, as the M in wsm refers to, it's a magnum, so unless there was heavy recoil, most everybody would complain.
Live2hunt, If you want a more accurate gun I suggest you buy one with an extra 0 after the 70 on your winchester. It seems to be the most cost effective way to increase accuracy and save money at the same time. Winchester is no longer an American company. They have complety sold out to Europe.
