Reloads/Primer Problem

Post by 264MAG » Wed May 17, 2006 7:22 am

I have been reloading rounds for my deer rifle (model 98 mouser action in .264) for almost a year and have yet to use up a 1000 count box of CCI 250 primers.

The problem is that about every 20th round or so a hole will be blown completely through the primer and gases pass by the bolt a hits me in the face. Bullet performance is not effected real bad, and velocities stay abount the same (crono).

It does burn though! Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Thanks for you input.

take the bolt to a gunsmith and have the firing pin and spring checked a week spring will let the pin go farther into the primer than it need to putting a hole in the primer.also recheck all your loads again to be extra sure the primer is seated properly I like to inset mine just a hair rather than have them flush with the case.
