My husband Tim has always been a big hunter and when we met and he brought me home I was fascinated by all the deer head on the wall but, I swore to him I would never ever shoot an animal. After a few hunts and seeing my son get his first buck I decided it was time for me to give it a shot (no pun intended) My husband took me to north Texas on a regular hunt he does every year and asked me if I wanted whitetail or mule. I chose the mule deer due to their look, the ears the face and the way they run. I was so nervous, I went out with the guide and my son the first day and shot at a muley but missed due to I was so nervous and never shot at anything. We did however get to see a mule deer buck and a whitetail buck get into a full fledge fight, they were even rolling around, hitting horns, it was very exciting. I then went out the next day with the guide and my husband. We sat up a blind in the meadow and soon as sun came up here came this buck. The guide and my husband both were looking at this buck thru their binoculars and saying how nice he was. I finally said "can I see him?" As soon as I seen him I began shaking my husband telling me to calm down. I then placed my gun on the shooting stick and got him in my scope. They tell me the guide had asked me 3 times if I was ready, I didn't hear him til he raised his voice a little and I said yes and he grunted and the buck stopped and I remember hearing the guide and my husband saying"take him, take him now"!!! I fired my gun and hear my husband telling me"you got him"!!! "you got him"!! I looked out in the meadow and seen my buck laying there. He dropped as soon as I shot. I then ran over to him , picked up his head and hugged him. He was a 5x5 with a kicker, 21 spread and a 32 inch neck. Pretty darn good for a first buck ever!!!!!I named him "Max". I thank my husband for taking me and giving me this wonderful experience. we now hunt together and enjoy being with each other during this time. I have already scheduled my next muley hunt in November. Kim Mclees
