We are also staying at Ft. Robinson. That is where we stayed last year. Are you staying in a cabin or in the hotel/dorms? A GPS is definately recommended. It easy to get turned around in the canyons and ridges. I dont think I would hunt there with out a gps and maps of the areas. As far as recommendation go. I am sure there are ranches in the area that would allow you hunt their property for a fee. I know that if you are willing to walk, you can get away from the crowds in the Pine Ridge area. There is plenty of public land in the NW corner. If you are going out archery hunting you will not see very many people. I dont know about rifle season. THis fall I went on my first muley hunt in SW ND. I had a blast and want to hunt muleys alot more. I didnt see nearly as many deer as I thought I would have, but had fun.
