Early Season Location?

I’m a relatively new western resident (been in CO 3 yrs now) and have concentrated most of my efforts on archery elk. I’m hoping to put a little more effort into a mule deer during archery season this year. Most info for early season bucks says “hunt from treeline up”, so that is where I’ve been con...

Re: Fluncked the test!

There is an "IQ test" that shows up at the top of the forum page that says info provided by someone and QDMA. It is more of a QDMA advertisement than a bowhunter IQ test.

Re: Speed or weight .

I think 400 gr is a good weight for a hunting arrow. It could even be considered heavy (not too heavy) for whitetail size game but a good weight for elk. Arrow weight/speed opinions can vary widely. Just go with a well tuned, happy medium weight/speed combo (380-400 gr./260-275 fps) or thereabouts a...

Scouting trip w/ my 10yr old

We did an overnight scouting trip last weekend. Didn't find a lot of sign, but enough to know that the elk are somewhere close by. A break from the hike. http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2682/002gwh.jpg Cold in the early morning shadows http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/6944/015qqw.jpg A break in the m...

Re: new to archery hutning in Co.

When you say "get to CO mid July", I'm assuming you mean your moving here. You need to have a residence established for 6 months before you can buy tags as a Resident, therefore you will be buying as a Nonresident. Tags are still available, but cost more. A big part of CO archery elk is over the cou...

I'm about half way through David Long's "Public Land Mulies - The Bottom Line". Very good read so far.

Book?

Are there any good reads out there that discuss highcountry archery muleys? Seems like I've seen one mentioned before, but my search has failed to turn up anything.

CO Unit 44 archery deer and will probably hunt that unit for elk as well until I connect with a buck (if I can connect). Also have an archery bear tag, an S32 Ewe tag above Georgetown, a muzzleloader pronghorn doe tag and a late season rifle cow tag for 35,36. I would also love to make it back home ...
