Re: Mule Deer and Bucktail Grunter
While hunting in California, I did have a fair amount of success with grunting at black tail/muleys. While pig hunting with a buddy, I saw a small forkey and grunted him within 10 yards just using my voice. He would answer back and walked in looking for me. My buddy was very impressed. I have been g...

Re: Would you shoot?
Dead deer walking. Yes I would shoot even at 07:00 the first day. Boom, recover, pack up, go home and fry some tenderloin.

Re: gun size or cal.
It's always fun to break in a new gun. So getting a new one is not always a bad thing. Giving the state of the economy, gas prices, etc. I would hold off buying any high $ items right now. Unless he can find a great deal on a used gun. Personally, I would take a used gun over the new ones anyway. Th...

Re: Savage rifles?
I too have a few of them in my safe. I have an old J model 110 in .223 Rem, a late version 110 in 6mm Rem Ackley Improved, another in .25-06 Rem, and my baby, the 10 ML II muzzleloader. While they are very nice shooters out of the box, they are one of the easiest guns to customize. If you can reload...

Re: Why do you elk hunt?
I too grew up with hunting in my family in Pennsylvania. My Dad, Uncles, and Grand Dad all hunted. I could not wait till I was 12 to go hunting with them. I have hunted in many places since my beginnings. My Grand Dad and my father have passed on to the happy hunting grounds and now and I have moved...

Re: Aluminum or Carbon
I have been bow hunting since 1980 and I have killed many critters with fiberglass, alunimum, carbon, and carbon/aluminum arrows. My preferance is the carbon/aluminum arrows like the ACC. They are durable and extremely straight. Yes they are more expensive but they would last me years. I used to go ...

Re: Anyone tried shooting 3 pellets out of a .45?
Yeah, I know the type. I guess my post could have come across negatively towards you but it was not intended. More pointed at the "genius". I have shot some heavy loads from my Knight .45 caliber. In fact I shoot 125 gr of loose Pyrodex 2f as my deer load. This load is actually less pressure than 10...

How long has your friend been a metalurgist or mechanical engineer? He's not? I did not think so.
Do not go over the recommended loads unless you understand what pressures you are dealing with and understand the limitations of your gun. Plain and simple.

Re: The hunting scope
I think shooting out past 350 is a risk anyway, to many factors can make the situation go wrong, a flinch on a shot at that distance makes u miss by 10ft. So, what's the big deal? If a flinch will make you miss by 10 feet, you will cleanly and clearly miss the animal entirely. No wounding involved....
