Got my e-mail today.....no deer, elk or antelope tag. AGAIN. The Beehive State does not seem to want to give an ol' bowhunter a tag.

Finally got the opportunity to get away for a few days from work and school and do some bowhunting in the Golden State. A few of us from the CBH committee chased free ranging wild hogs this week and 8 out of 11 hunters arrowed some hogs. It was a fun short trip that yielded some fine tasting sausage...

Unfortunately, it's nothing like it was before the winter kill of 07/08 when they lost nearly 70% of the herd. It has been slow to recover, but there's still a few good deer in there.....just have to work extra hard for them and get a little lucky. I would focus on areas between 11,500'-12,500' wher...

For the earlier hunt (earlier than archery season), I would focus on the areas that border the eastern edge of the reservoir and as far North as you can get. There are several walk-in areas in this portion of the unit that you can hike into using the gas well roads. Public vehicle access is restrict...
