I agree with previous guess of mid 170's as far as score... I doesn't matter though, that's a great buck in my book, a shooter period. tough to get away with drawing with a deer staring at you from 20 yds. I shot a mature bull elk this year @ 40 yds in his bed with a 125 gr. G5 Tekan II. The only reason I used an expandable was because it was windy. The bull was quartering away and I hit him mid body, pierced both lungs and the arrow slammed into the off shoulder. He went about 60 yards and collapsed....

25 inches outside, 4x6, not a monster but interesting looking, haven't aged him yet but have the jaw.

I think hunting the rut is just as ethical as an early season hunt when the bucks are still in bachelor herds and don't move around a lot each day. During the rut this year I've spotted a few borderline shooter bucks at distance and by the time I get within shooting range they've run off with a doe....

Any biologists in the room?? Can one roughly age a deer by how black or grey his forehead is or by how his rack is configured?? I've heard that old bucks have foreheads that are more grey and young ones are black. I've also heard that as a buck passes his peak his rack becomes heavier out toward the...
