Eastern Montana

Hey guys,
I drew a general tag for eastern montana. I'm just looking for some general input on what general area to hunt. I am in between the missouri breaks and Broadus area. Only hunting mule deer. Any input greatly appreciated. Thanks and best of luck to everyoneelse this fall!

Re: Best high country boots?

I have a a pair of Zamberlans and by far the best I've bought so far. I started with pronghorns... absolutely fell apart within one season and no support what so ever! Bought a pair of kenetreks, tough break in, and after 30 or so miles i had blisters the size of a fist on the back of my feet.... Za...

Re: After they Shed Velvet

I love the advice from everyone. My friend did say he saw a large number of coyotes in the area. I did not see any when I was there. This may have them moving to another area, now my next question is WILL THEY RETURN TO THE PREVIOUS AREA AFTER THE COYOTES MOVE OUT? I will put one more piece of infor...

Re: After they Shed Velvet

Thanks, That makes a lot of sense. Is there anyway to estimate how far they would go to get into the thick cover? Our bow season is still open during the rut... would you advise just waiting for the rut and then hunting a whole week during the rut? This makes the most sense to me, because I think it...

Re: After they Shed Velvet

I hunt in north dakota, The elevation changes we are talking about are 500 feet tops. There are open areas and then there are northern facing hills that are loaded with trees. I do think the tenderness of their antlers has merit. I wonder if the moon phase had an issue. I would also like to hear mor...

After they Shed Velvet

I was wondering when most bucks break out of bachlor groups or if you notice what habbits change. Do you guys notice them being more nocturnal or changing areas? It makes me wonder becaus...

Re: New spotting scope

I have the Nikon you are talking about. It is a great spotting scope for the money. The zoom is appropriate for the spotter to, because you can actually see at 48X vs the others that go to 60x, i've always had trouble during the peak hours getting a good view. Vortex are great too and the warranty i...

Gear List

Hey guys, Being that most of our hunts are coming up here in the next few weeks or month, I would like to see what everyone's essential gear list is for a mule deer hunt. I'm going in 2 weeks and always seem to forget something that is extremely important, like a head lamp. Lets hear about any new p...

Re: Shipping / Transporting Game

Your totally screwed! No you are fine. If I shot something that I want mounted, I would just get a taxidermist there to mount it and then he will know how to package it and ship it. If I just want the horns, you can fly those home with you. The meat: freeze it and ship it with dry ice. Never done th...
