Re: Got my elk
Also, if you were wondering why there are no bullet holes in the body...it's because I shot him in the head. Which is why you only see the plate and antlers. I don't usually aim for the head, but with where we were, and how long it would have taken to get him out had he ran anywhere, I had to take it.

Re: Round chambered while hunting?
No, because I never hunt alone. And I would never want to be THAT guy that cracks one off in his partner's skull.
I keep 3 in the magazine and I'm awfully fast loading so I never worry about having one in the chamber. Scares the crap out of me.

Got my elk
While he's MUCH smaller than the one I had my crosshairs on during opening day, he's a healthy bull with lots of good meat. He's got some goofy brows going on...good thing his right one ended up being 4.6" long. [-o< http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/3172/1104000839.jpg http://img695.imageshack.us/...

My custom M70 with sling and bipod weighs 6.2 lbs. Which is why with the .338 RCM it kicks like a mule.

Re: Montana Opener this Weekend
I can't even BEGIN to explain how irate I am right now. This was the first time in 10 years that I have quit hunting for a day due to what happened this morning on the opener... Ten minutes to 6, I'm out of the truck, walking up to the spot we scouted last night. We can hear animals moving around, b...

Re: Bittersweet Success
I have to ask...
What do people get out of using food plots? It's not hunting, sorry. It's sitting and waiting.
For the people that hunt for the meat, that's fine. Because I know of a lot of people that do it for does only. But I can't stand buck hunting from them.
