Re: Is this story about you?

You missed the part of my post where I said under ideal conditions. This for me means very little wind, and not on the verge of darkness. I'll give you the fact there are shooting schools out there, but in SW CO where I'm from, there's not enough time to get away from work, or more importantly, the ...

Re: Is this story about you?

Well said Springville! At least someone else sees how educational long range shooting can be. No, I didn't have the means to just buy this rifle and scope, what I did have the means to do was learn how to use a lathe and put it together. A chronograph and a good ballistics program with a rangefinder...

Re: Unit 711 and 71 in Colorado

Sounds like you're on the right track. As for your stragety of not hiking around a lot, in my opinion this is the best method for the country you're going to hunt. Without an army of foot soldiers, going into that chain timber with hopes of getting off a shot is amusing. When you see it you'll know ...

Re: Unit 711 and 71 in Colorado

good luck on a tag next year. My advice would be to get to a good vantge point, and glass down into the pinyon- pushdown areas. Once you actually see how thick the trees and brush are from ground level, you'll rule out a drive working. You may push out some small bucks, but the ones you drove all th...

Re: Mule Deer Summer Patterns

I agree they aren't going anywhere, unless someone just pressures the burn out of them. They are comfortable in thier summer routines and even if if bothered, they'll come back. You have to remember, these bucks know thier home turf like you know the back of your hand. They won't blow out of the coun...

Re: My early season so far..

the nice shot of the four point quartering toward the camera. Wow! that buck is gonna have a great front end. By the time his back forks catch up, he'll be a hog. Keep an eye on him, in a couple years, he'll go 190" if those front forks keep growing. Congrats on finding a bick of this caliber. =D>

Re: Is this story about you?

In response to M.Bird "Hunting is not long range target practice", you have missed the point completely. Long range target practice is preparation for hunting. My wife drew a deer tag in CO last year, her first year ever to hunt. We spent countless hours shooting from 100 to her limit with my Hart b...

Re: Unit 711 and 71 in Colorado

Don't know about anyone else, but we shed hunted the ridges above disappointment creek two years ago and found tons of sheds. When we went higher up the hill looking for the bigger sheds, we started finding lots of winter killed bucks. You could tell they were bucks by the pedicles on the skulls. My...
