Re: Favorite prairie dog caliber?

My Marlin 795 semi auto .22 does a great job on those critters. I can't reach out too far with the .22 , but it will sure clean things up within 100 yards or so. I have a 25-06 I'd like to try out on the longer ones someday soon :))

Re: Muzzle Brake?

Brakes definitely make a difference in recoil and NOISE. I haven't had a lot of experience with them (None of my rifles have a brake), but I have shot a couple down at the local range. Pulling the trigger is fine, but if you're to the side, get ready for a blast. If you're out hunting, hearing prote...

Re: Closest Kill

The first cow elk I shot a few years back was around 40 yards when she and a few others came busting out of the trees. I agree, it's definitely more exciting to be that close!

Re: Nikon Prostaff vs. Monarch vs. Leupold?

I don't have any experience with the Leuopold scopes, but they are definitely a name that has a great reputation. I have a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10 X 42 with the BDC on my Browning X Bolt 25-06. The scope is awesome! Nikon's spot on app really makes the BDC reticle an awesome resource to have in the fie...

Re: New Rifle

Thanks for the input guys! I'm super excited to get out this fall. I'm with Shooter, I can't pass up an opportunity to add to my rifle collection! :)) After this it might be a while before my wife will let me add to it again haha. We have a family vacation to Lake Powell this week, but after that it...

New Rifle

Hey guys, I just picked up a spike elk tag yesterday and have committed myself to an elk hunt in a couple months.... Now comes the fun part of getting a rifle for it! I've been thinking about a .308 as far as the caliber, but I'm not completely sold on which brand. Price range would be around $600 t...

Re: rifle questions

Also, this is a great excuse to buy a new rifle!!! lol That's my kind of thinking! I agree with what others have said: Keep your rifle well cleaned and oiled and you should be fine. There's something satisfying about using your own equipment - Especially with such an awesome rifle that you have!

Re: RIFLES+ME=CONFUSED.

Have you looked into a .308? It's a great caliber for an all around gun. It has it's limitations like almost every caliber, but it's a great all around cartridge. If you keep your shots to reasonable distances, you'll have no problem taking down a deer, elk or whatever comes across your path. It has...

Re: What brand rifle?

I just bought a Browning X bolt Stainless hunter and I love it! It is a quality rifle and looks sharp!

Can't go wrong with a Browning or Remington!
