The snow finally left about the first week in May, so we had about three decent weekends before the green up and the woodtick explosion.... Looks like Montana elk and mule deer are going to be chased by us flatlanders again...My son & I got lucky and drew the big game combo....
Now I hope I don't draw in Wyoming too because I need the refund money to finance the MT trip....

How did I miss this when you posted it?.....Very nice buck Wayne.....If this winter stays this mild it is looking good for the deer...We haven't had a foot on the ground all winter until now....

All of the above are great answers...It seems as where ever you go you will see lopes....Some big, but for the most part average, just like any other big game......We have hunted 27 twice, 29, 30, 21, 115 and 106....27 will most likely cost you a point but our biggest ones came from there (13 & 14+)...

I might add that in the mid 1970s the Feds attempt to re-introduce timber wolves to northern WI started right in the heart of our hunting territories..Contrary to popular belief that they actually migrated from MN without interfering propogation is hog-wash...Conversation with federal field biologis...

Usually tougher winters bring on earlier drops....I have seen them as early as Thanksgiving on one particularily "deep snow" start of a winter...We had a Halloween storm that dropped 36" and it continued right on through the early part of winter that year...On normal years you can expect to see them...
