Re: Binocular and Spotting Scope Use
I hunt AZ for deer/elk/etc. I use my 10x42s for most glassing within a mile for game. Anything further than that, or if something peaks my interest out past 1000 yards, I break out my 15x56s. I can glass out to 2 miles easily with the 15s. And if something looks big at 2 miles, you don't need a spot...

Well, the lucky little girl drew another bull elk tag, second year in a row! So hopefully some more photos to be posted in about 7 months....

Re: Kids and hunting?
I guess I should have updated this with my daughter's continued success. She drew a2014 late AZ bull elk tag, and we practiced, scouted, trained, etc. for months. It paid off on day #5 on a very tough hunt. One of my all-time favorite hunting photos...my 12 year old daughter walking up to her first ...

Re: Colorado MONSTER
One taken in AZ 2 weeks ago that unofficially nets 298+" non-typical, and grosses well over 300" by 3 scorers, but has to wait for the drying period to be re-scored officially. I have seen photos, and it is insane!!! No guided hunt either, a DIYer. And not from the Strip or the Kaibab either.

Hunting pressure moves deer too. But not usually between summer/winter ranges. Just to less accessible terrain.

Re: Spotting Scope Magnification for Idaho Muleys
Save the $100. Save your loose change, squirrel away what folding money you can scrounge up. Have $20 left over after monthly bills, save it. Go out to eat one less time a month. By the end of one year, you will have $400-500. Do that for 2 years and buy a good scope. There is nothing better than hi...

I have always had good luck finding decent mulies on Sitgreaves Mtn. and up on Kendrick's Peak around Bull Basin.

Re: the right ammo???
I, too, think the .25-06 is a little light for elk, but with proper shot placement, should fill the freezer with a spike elk just fine. Look into the Barnes line for the .25-06. Amazing penetration and nearly 100% weight retention. I shot a big bodied mulie in 2012 with a .25-06 100gr. TTSX quarteri...
