Brett, They are in southern NM, right on the Mexico border. Some of the roughest mountains in the lower 48.

Can you believe the ease of which they can climb shear rock faces?

Wonderful animal, I would love to hunt them.

Bigbuck92, they are not native to North America. The Ibex (Or Steinbock) are originally from Eurasia and Africa. There are three different species of Ibex and I BELIEVE the ones in NM are Asian Ibex (I am not 100% positive on this though).

so how did they get here. did people ship them over from there?

In 1970 the Department of Game and Fish introduced 15 Ibex from Iran (I was correct, they ARE Asian Ibex) into the Florida Range. Another 27 were introduced a short time later.
The last census on them that I can find have the count at over 350 Ibex living in the Florida Mountains.
