I dont know about NM but every time I go hunting in Colorado there is a bear tag in my pocket.

I have seen 3 bears during 3 different hunts. Each time I could have smacked each one in the rear with the butt of my rifle, but I didn't have a tag. So now I carry one no matter if I am hunting bear or not.

If it is not expensive, buy one.
A 'Veteran' whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.'

I spend A LOT of time in unit 52 but I very seldom see any bear sign. Though last year I was in 51 and it is better bear country. So i would say if you are a resident go ahead and get one.
