My Coyote Skull!

Post by SomeGuy01 » Fri Nov 28, 2008 2:29 pm

I just finished my very first skull that I have ever tried. This is the "Afternoon Coyote" that I posted a week or so ago. It was pretty fun to have it be something pretty gross to begin with and have it turn out to be something pretty cool. Im pretty proud of myself for pulling it off, and now I want to find another one to try. Maybe one day I will be good enough, that people will want me to do theirs for them:0

I boiled it in water mixed with sal soda, degreased it in some dawn dishsoap, and finished it off with a skull bleaching kit from vandykes. It was a very good learning experience, and I cant wait to do another one, maybe try something with antlers once i get the hang of it!

during the spring and summer, just tie the head with a wire and stake it out on a red ant bed, by fall it will be clean as a whistle and ready to use the bleach kit on, no muss no fuss no stink or smell, of course you will have some pretty big tough ants around by then..LOL ...

I've found that the skulls of the ten dogs we left on the desert flats near my honey hole were nicely sun bleached when I went back this year. The only problem with this is that when you leave evidence of ten dogs from a small stand area, other dog hunters realize how good it is. I couldn't elieve how many truck and boot tracks there were when I went back this year.

Nice job on the skull bleaching.
