Reno Yote

Post by M.Bird » Sun Nov 29, 2009 9:50 pm

It just turned out to be a beautiful morning: the 3” of snow that was forecasted did not happen, it was not that cold (low overnight 27 deg). Set up on the 1st spot, started calling and got bad response, warning barks, pick up and move. Got to the second spot did my first set of calls nothing, let the area set for about 5 minutes. Started 2nd set and finished it. Just sat there after that set and waited, saw on pop up from the valley, then the second, then the third, and up came the 4th, it’s been years since I have called up a pack. They where about 50-65yds away in a nice line from my right to left (I shoot left handed) they had no idea I was there, as they trotted along I had to move to get into better position and found the 2nd in line and let the 223 go to work, dropped in the tracks, other 3 bailed into the valley. I though it was a little early to start collecting fur, but always get some data off of them. The hide is very thick and long no rub marks. It’s a keeper! Picked her up and started back to the truck, arm was getting tired, scaled her at the truck 42lbs. She is now salted on the stretcher. Sorry the photos are poor quality but only had the phone cam with me.
Have a great day and a better tomorrow

Congrats on the coyote. Have you heard what the pelts are worth this year?

I was trying to find pelt prices (locally) yesterday, everyone said it way to early for pelts and nobody was buying.

I'm going to tan this one out in the spring, I know there are some local stores selling tanned plets $179.00 to all the visiters that come here. But would like to find a local buyer that takes the whole dog and gives $25-$40 for the animal. I just dont like skinning them out any more.

If any one has information about pelt prices please pass it on

Have a great day

M. Bird
