starter?

Post by amp713 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:01 pm

So im thinking maybe i should kinda sorta think about getting a trail cam. I do not have alot of extra money floating around so i was wondering what a good CHEAP starter cam would be?

I had a ton of success with my Wildview 2.0 that got stolen last year. It worked like a champ and the photos were plenty clear for me. It's on sale right now at Cabelas for $49 if you want to go super cheap. I now have the Moultrie D50 (5 megapixels) which seems to be working well too, it's also pretty darn cheap at $69 at Cabelas. I did have some problems with the Moutrie D40 so stay away from that one.

The first four are so far this year with the Moultrie D50 and the bottom two are from two years ago with the Wildview.

Good luck, but beware you'll be in the mountains more often! :thumb

I've got the Moultrie D40. I know some people have had problems with this one but mine has been awesome for me and I've got a lot of good pics with it. And like BowTech said, they are pretty cheap. This has been my first year doing it and I'm addicted now! Going to get a couple more for next year.

With the D40 have you had any problems with batteries or hanging? The reviews I read was the D40 and D50 where big and heavy and the bateries didn't last that long. But for 69 bucks I can live with big and heavy I just need the batteries to last at least a week.

With the D40 I just used Energizer Regular batteries and I just replaced them for the first time since I put out my camera. So they last a little over 2 months and still had 20% power remaining but I just wanted fresh batteries in it since the hunt is getting close. And yeah its kinda heavy with the batteries in it. The little bungee straps that come with the camera suck so I just went to the hardware store and got the thicker rubber straps and they worked awesome. Then I sprayed the camera into camo colors so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Been lucky so far and had a blast with it. Just an FYI, I heard that if you use rechargeable batteries they don't last more than a couple days.
