Polarizing Filter??

How many of you guys use a Polarizing filter on your digital cameras?

And while I'm at it a UV filter?

Curious as to what you think of them and if they are worth it?

I've heard the Polarizing filter doesn't do much for wildlife? But great for landscapes and foliage/blue sky etc.

What think ye?

I don't put one on very often but love them for some things. Take the glare off water and glass and really bring out a blue sky with clouds.

I have both the UV and the polarizing filter .
I got the UV for protection for my lens and the polarizing filter for landscape photos. But i leave it on also for sunset photos. I had in on when i took this Benson sunset photo. They are not cheap !!

My 77mm polarizing filter was around $90.00 and the UV was $40.00.

Utah Rob,

What are you using a 77mm filter on? That's the size the size my 6x7 uses. Come to think, maybe my 170-500 does too, not here, it's at my brother's.

6x7 !!!!!!!!! SWEEEEEEEEEET !!!!!!!!

My Canon EF 17 - 40 mm F4L is 77mm .

I took this photo using my polarizing lens . This is a photo of the mountain Cody shot his spike bull on with his muzzy. It made the sky very blue.

Brett, the polarizer can do some great effects as stated--deepen blues, and intensify colors including the colors in wildlife, greens, browns, reds, foilage, etc...
When you start to lose lighting conditions I would take the polarizer off. It all kind-of comes down to the effect you are looking for, good quick action shots I won't use it for all the time, I am talking about a circular polarizing filter.
If you use them too much you can get what is reffered to as the "post card look".

I put a uv on pretty much everything that I use. It can protect your lense from scratching I would rather have a 40 dollar filter scrathed and replaced rather than an expensive lense. I have even put them on spotting scopes before. They can filter out some of the haze you get sometimes too.

Just starting out with my camera so these are some great questions. I am heading to the camera store to get a UV filter and a Polarizing Filter too. Can you recommend a certain kind?

Most of mine are Tippens, but there are other out there as well.

They are a pretty good bang for the buck. IMO
