Any bighorn fans?

Post by Tree Killer » Wed Apr 23, 2008 10:24 am

These are of the California Bighorn subspecie. Oregon has quite a few of these in the arid basalt faults and rims throughout the central and southeast part of the state.

This ram walked over to a pile of boulders and began scratching his butt on a rock...

...and judging by his reaction, it felt mighty good!

At times the rams let me get to within 60-70 ft. I started out in full view of the rams, and slowly moved toward them. When I'd get to a rock I'd sit down and ignore them for awhile. Soon they'd just go about their business so I'd take a few photos and get up and move closer. By the time they bedded down they weren't concerned with me at all.
