A few through the spotting scope

Post by Springville Shooter » Sat Aug 28, 2010 10:27 pm

Here are some pics I took through the spotting scope this weekend. I was scouting for Mule Deer, notice the lack of Mule Deer pics. :>/ Better luck next time I guess.------------SS

SS - Great pics! Especially the antelope pics...they are really clear. Just curious what kind of setup you have and how far away you think the bucks/bulls were?

I took the pics through my 20-60 Kowa TSN 821 spotting scope with a Canon A490 10MP digital camera. The toughest thing is getting the spotting scope perfectly focused. The bulls were 650yds away taken on 40X or so. The antelope was only 250yds away taken on 30X. I probably took 10-15 pics of each to get the good ones. The bulls were very early and it was overcast.---------------------SS

The bulls are in a LE zone in Utah, but it is one of the easier ones to draw. The antelope tag is fairly easy too. It's a general unit for deer and sucks accordingly. There are very few deer in the area, but there are not very many hunters either and I'd rather look for a needle in a haystack by myself than get caught up in the rat-race that is many of the general hunt areas. I lucked into the spotting scope from a guy who needed the money and it has been one of my best pieces of equipment. I don't know anyone else who has one, so I don't know if all Kowa's glass is this good, or if I just got lucky.----------SS
