Geese picture

Post by MuleyMadness » Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:19 pm

Was out today trying to get more Mallard pictures when a big flock of geese flew over, followed by another smaller one.

I watched them go down a ways away and managed to get these pics, think there was about 130 of them or so??

Man I wish I owned this field/land. :)

What are the 3 white ones??

They are either Ross Geese or they are Snow Geese. The best way to tell is to look at their beaks if you get close enough. Rass geese have a pink bill with a bunch of bumps next to the feathers. They also have pink legs. Snow geese have an orange bill with a black stripe on the edge that almost look like lipstick. And they have orange legs.

Here is a picture of a snow goose.

And here is a picture of a ross goose.

There is not very much difference between the two.

Sure wish that you owned it to. I'd bring down my decoys and help you hunt them. :)

Great pictures. =D>

I think that Ross' are considerably smaller than a snow also.

They look like Snows to me. Don't see many Ross' around these parts.

Nice pics.

I popped one out of a flock of twelve a couple years ago in Heber City. See some sort of white geese every year during the hunt. Never have been able to indentify them other than the one that I got. They are here but not very thick.
