Colorado 41,42,421 help

Post by Muley_73 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 2:50 am

Was just given a tag for unit 41,42,421 3rd season in CO yesterday!!!! I am super excited to go on one more hunt this fall!!! I understand that this unit is not a trophy unit. However I'm looking foward to spending some days with my dad and wife as they are both coming along. Any info or advice on this unit/units would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

I got this tag 2 weeks before the hunt opened. I had just burned all but one of my vac days, hunting with a buddy on the Pauns for an entire week. So my goal on this hunt was to just try and go spend a few fun days with my dad, wife and youngest son. Second goal was to learn the area and decided if it was and area we wanted to continue to hunt in up coming years. We hunted the opening weekend and the weather was really bad. We did see a quite a few deer and a few bucks but the weather had everything pretty hunkered down. Had to go back to work until the following Thurday. We again saw quite a few deer and a few bucks every day. Most of the bucks we saw were 2 yr old bucks but we did see a couple of 3 to 4 yr olds. Most of the bucks we saw were on the private but we did see bucks on the public everyday. I ended up shooting the best buck that I saw on the hunt. I shot him on the second to last day of the hunt. He ended up being a 3X4 that was just under 27 inches wide. I was happy with him, especially due to time constraints and being unfamilar with the area. I really dont know how good or bad of a buck he is for that area but we had a really fun time so I was not complaining! Whether I hunt the area again, I guess Im still not sure?

I actually saw of pic of the buck we killed on here last month. It was the big freaky 8-spike. Actaully a 8X3. He was 34" wide and ended up scoring 187 7/8. It was an incredible hunt!
