D-3 Rifle Hunting

Post by Boats415 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 5:03 pm

My name is Paul and I am new to the site. I will be on my first deer hunt later this year in California's D-3 area. Does anyone have any tips to help increase my chances in this area?
Thanks in advance.

I hunt d3-5 and I have to say it's a hard hunt unless you can find a spot that nobody else has. Over the last decade it has been like hunting in the city with people everywhere and very few legal bucks. The success rate is climbing in the area but I think that is do to the increase of hunters in the area, nothing can escape!I usually backpack into the backcountryy to get away or if that's not your thing then just find a nice ridge top with a good opening and just sit at let everyone else on the mountain push all the deer by you. Well good luck friend

Thanks for the information! I have no problem hiking and will plan on it. Whatever it takes to improve my chances. I am just looking forward to the opportunity.
