1970's 40 inch buck

Post by canyonhunter » Wed Nov 11, 2009 9:01 pm

Was looking through my grandpa's shed and I seen this buck and decided to score it. It scored 185 and 6/8.
Left side
H1:4 4/8
H2:4 4/8
H3:4
H4:3 6/8
G1:1
G2:16 4/8
G3:11 6/8
G4:0
Main Beam:27 3/8
Extras:7
Total
79 3/8

Right side
H1:4 4/8
H2:4 2/8
H3:3 6/8
H4:3 5/8
G1:0
G2:16 4/8
G3:8 4/8
G4:5 6/8
Main Beam:22
Extras:0
Total
78 7/8

Inside:27 4/8
Over All Total:185 6/8

All my mom know was her dad killed it in Utah in the 1970's. Its outside spread is 40 and 1/2 inches! The G3 on the right side has about 1-2 inches broke off so if you add that it would be 186 or 187.

Very cool buck Canyon. Make sure you end up in Grandpas will for those antlers. :thumb

Great buck, thanks for posting. Sort of validates my claim to friends about a guy I worked with in Durango. He knew a 60ish age woman who lived on the Jicarilla who only shot 40" bucks or larger. Of course I questioned this seemingly outrageous claim so he brought the fotos she had given him to work one day. Also sorta proves once again that the largest bucks killed never make it to the internet or to a B&C scorer, as most just quietly shoot em, eat em, hang rack in the shed.

Yours is a true wide trophy, the best kind( IMHO ) Thx again.
