Mayhill, NM

Post by Ranger8292 » Fri May 21, 2010 5:00 pm

Hello,

My Nane is Joel. I live in Dallas, I have been a lifelong Whitetail Hunter in Texas. I have shot 2 - 150 class whitetail durring my hunting career. My daughter just graduated College w/ a serious boyfriend. I meet his grandfather at the graduation. He lives in Mayhill, NM and has 1,800 acres of hay and cattle. He says the place has an 8' fence to keep the deer out, but not working. Has ben having hunts for the past 2 yrs. He has invited me down to hunt this year. I will definatly be going, however I was wondering, what you Muley Guys think of the chances of seeing a nice one?

You'll see deer there.....mostly mule deer. Some whitetails up near Cloudcroft a short distance up the road.

Some of the best whitetails (and muleys) I've seen in that country have been on public lands.....but there is lots of private in that entire unit that has decent bucks on them as well.....make sure you know where you're at so you can stay out of trouble. Most is very well marked.

I have a few areas you could try that used to produce some 140-160 type mule deer when I hunted it a few years.......you'll have to pm though.

I will be hunting around there this year. Mayhill has a lot of deer and if he has hay fields you can be sure there will be deer there. Though size might not be in 180's but there are alot of deer there. That's something we don't see just anywhere in N.M.
