2010 3rd Season Colorado Bucks

Post by canyonhunter » Sun Nov 21, 2010 4:24 pm

Had a fun hunt, we killed 3 out 4 tags because one of our partners had to go home early with a knee injury.

Here is one of my friends bucks, it is 25 inches wide really heavy. Tell me what you think he scores.

Here is my buck. We were driving down the road when my dad spotted a buck. When we got a closer look at him, it was just a little 4 point. We walked up the hill a little ways. We looked back across a draw and could see about 15 deer and one of them was really big bodied and looked like a big buck. We hustled back down the hill about 150 yards. My dad ranged it at 430 yards so I put my 400 yard line just on its back and let lead fly. The buck took a couple steps and looked back at where he had been standing. I shot again and the buck humped up for a second then went back to his does. I shot again and missed that shot. The next shot dropped him like a rock. It was so close to dark that when we were on our way back to the truck to get the packs, we had to use flashlights. We walked over to where the buck had gone down and couldn't find him. We found where he had been down and there was blood all over and we could see where he had stumbled down the hill. We decided to pull out until morning. When the sun came up, we were headed across the draw to find my buck. I was just behind my dad when we were about 15 yards from the blood when I looked back and seen hind end of a dead deer. We had walked about 10 yards from him the night before just hadn't seen him.

The first shot took off his back fork so before he was a 3x4 that we had seen a couple days earlier.
The second shot was quartering away and hit him through the ribs and hit his liver.
The third shot missed.
The fourth shot hit him in the spine and he bleed to death where he lay.

I did see some bigger deer, some were on private and some I just couldn't get close enough and some I could have shot earlier in the hunt but that would have meant I would have had to go home and go to school haha.
