Your area may very well have been over hunted the last few years but that doesn't mean the whole unit is that way. I'm just saying it might be time to check out a few different areas, that's all.
I know I have had to.
Good luck this next year.

I'll have my DH tag for the second year. I shot a good buck last year so I'll be holding out for something special or I won't be hunting deer in 2016. For LE I'm debating between an archery pronghorn tag or maybe the new late muzzle loader season for the Zion, or possible archery Pauns...not sure. I'll probably buy a deer and elk point in AZ since I don't have much time to get out of state, got to love school.

Scott702 the north end of the Zion is very similar to Panguitch but the southern end is much lower pinyon/juniper country. The same can be said for the Pine Valley.

I apply in many states. And I apply for my nephews in many states. We will get some fantastic tags this year. I am pretty sure we will get 3 killer deer tags and 1 great elk tag. We are in the running for 2 more great elk tags. In the running means 50% odds of drawing. The pretty sure tags means it is >75% chance of drawing.
But how we do that is apply in many states. And the youth tags really help out.
2014 will be hard to beat. Because the kids shot 4 good mule deer. 1 in Idaho, 2 in utah, 1 in Colorado. And my 1 nephew drew the youth elk tag in Utah and shot a nice 5x6 for his first elk. I think most of these animals are bigger than I will ever get. But I get to go with them and it is fun. It is real fun to be there when the kids get something big.

I'm hoping to draw a muley buck tag for muzzy season. I'll be using a .45 Kentucky muzzleloader, PRB, and open sights.

I'm editing this post because I think we've finally decided what we're going to do this year; barring something better reveals itself. Right now we're planning on making a trip to Lake Meredith, TX to try a public land hunt for mulies and/or whitetails. We were planning a trip to OK but a public hunt trip here in my home state is a lot cheaper than anything else.

My 12 year old daughter drew her second year in a row bull elk tag in AZ, so we have that to look forward to. My cousin drew the same tag, so I have two bulls to find this year. M daughter's second bull, and my cousin's first! Deer applications are in and awaiting the draw.

My plans changed from the muzzy hunt to a 2nd rifle season buck tag. As of right now i'll still use the muzzy.
