Book Cliffs

Post by ylts0hg » Sun Mar 01, 2015 9:27 pm

I have 10 points this year for LE deer. I have been told that the roaded side of the Books Cliffs is the one to go with. I dont know which of the 2 is considered the roaded side. Will somebody give me a heads up on this. Thanks.

So, the 10A/10C is not considered the roadless side?

The way that it looks is that the hunt includes both A and C in the any weapon hunt. This means that you should be able to hunt the road less area also if you would like. The only hunts that I know of that split the road less area off into it's own hunt are for the elk hunts.

This is actually inaccurate. There is a 10A/10C and 10/B. 10/B is the Book Cliffs South. You can only hunt A B & C for Deer if you hunt Archery or Muzzleloader. The Any Weapon hunts are split up.

Yep I stand corrected.

Thanks for clearing it up.

I've got a question, why is the north side better than the south side? Because it's roaded? More deer? Bigger bucks? I'm just curious, not very familiar with that part of utah!

To be honest I'm not real sure. I've never hunted the unit myself but I've got a buddy that has drawn both an archery deer tag and elk tag for it and so the stories ive heard are from the entire unit. I really think it's just that the roaded side provides more access to more land. I'm not sure there is an advantage as far as "quality" of bucks, but I could be wrong. Although my buddy did pack in on horses (on the roadless side) for the first 10 days of the deer hunt, going after a buck he got on a trail cam. He ended up killing a good deer right off the road on the roaded side the second week of the hunt. He did say he saw more deer on the roads but attributed it to being able to cover more ground as opposed to just more deer in that unit.

I see, thanks for the info! I wonder if there are some down right monsters hidden in the roadless area.
