Utah deer

Post by loco4muleys » Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:34 am

Here's the situation: My dad has quite a few preference points for deer in Utah, but he wants to use them this year so that he can apply for preference points for elk with me. Having never hunted Utah before, he has no clue on where to apply. I suggested the Book Cliffs, but I've never hunted there either. Since a lot of you on here call Utah home, where's a solid spot for deer in Utah? I know it can be hit and miss. Any help would be awesome.

Books has the 'most' deer as far as numbers, probably easier to draw also.

Henries is the best tag in the state, HORRIBLE odds.

Paunsaugunt next best IMO.

Best of luck, Book Cliffs has lots of deer and some nice bucks.

the pauns, is terriable IMO. I have seen alot of great bucks comin off the Oak Creek unit and your odds are very good compared to the pauns, and the henrys.
INSANITY! Is doing the same thing over & over again and expecting a different result!

when you say "preference" points are you referring to "bonus" points?????
preference points only apply to general deer hunts
bonus points apply to LE hunts such as book cliffs or the pauns

How many points do they have? If you want to get a good choice on a hunt you could draw this year, we would have to know how many points are accumulated.

Okay, sounds like he has 9 "bonus" points, not preference points. Hope that helps a little bit? I know for sure that most of the top units are gonna take more points than that, but he's looking for the best hunt for the points he's got.

Books are good. My friend drew out this year with 2 points and got a 206 typical buck
