Favorite Ammo For 30-06?

Post by mule man » Mon Jul 11, 2005 1:51 pm

I was just wondering some favorite load types from others using 30-06, i like using a 165 grain nosler partition from federal.

Remington Core Lok't 150 grain pointed soft point: Best all-around load for a 30-06.

I know there are lots and lots of exotic loadings and bullets out there today but this particular Remington load, developed 50 years ago, is as good as anything. I have taken dozens of whitetail deer with them at ranges up to 300 yds (which is about the limit for an '06 anyway).

It ain't sexy and it ain't $2 a round.

And they are made right here in Ar-kin-saw too !! :thumb

I've exclusively used the Winchester 165 gr. Super-X® Pointed Soft Points. May be others that perform better, but these have done a great job on elk, deer, and antelope. Get a good group out of my gun.

well, i like to reload my bullets with 150 grain nosler balistic tip. it is a good all around bullet. there is no need to use a 180 grain bullet for deer. 150 grain does it a good job for any typ of animal.

For the last few years I have been using the 165 grain federals.
This year I thought I would try something a little different and checked out the new Fusion bullets....they seem to shoot a tighter group than all other brands I have tried so far.

I like the Winchester Supreme silver tips. The cartride looks cool too. It matches my stainless steal, synthetic stock. They are 168 grain. Took a nice buck this year with it.

I use 165 grain boattail softpoints I load myself cut bullet holes at 150 yards and don't have a problem with shots out to 400 yards.
