hey I have always counted eyegards as apoint if they are over an inch what do you guys do and name the state your in. Im mostly concerned about mulies JimW
You Kill'em we fill'em wtt taxidermy
eye gaurds.
I don't count them. I just count the forks, if I can hang a ring on a point or cheater coming off, then I'll count that as well.
It seems that back east/whitetail deer they always count the eye guards in there point total. Plus they add both sides together. A 4 point in my mind, would be a 10 point to them.
Thats at least my method. Im in Utah.

As a measurer I seem to always include the eyeguards, as they are a scoreable point. However, when describing a buck that measures as a 5x5, I will usually say it's a typical 4-point with eye-guards.
Now if you're talking to buds on the east coast, I simply expalin to them it's a 5x5 and they understand fully.....and relpy, "Oh it's a 10 point!"

I don't count them when talking about a 4X4 but they do count when it comes to measuring an animal. I'm from Colorado and this is the way most folks I hunt with and around count. I'll never forget the first time I went to Texas and someone had told me they shot an 8 point the year before. I was only 13 at the time and started to believe everything really is bigger in Texas, until I found out they were counting both sides.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.
