Good food for Packs
Im just curious what some of you put in your packs food wise that provides a good source of energy. All i got is the Nature Vally bars and they are good but I could always use a little variety.
GIVE EM THE SHAFT

Although kind of pricey buy a few energy bars and watch your calory intake. I think for backcountry pack trips 3500 cals a days. I am never real hungry when I'm hunting and made the mistake one year of not getting near enough calories and lost 15lbs in three days. The problem was I became very weak and it got dangerous for me on steep descents my legs would all but give out. They were mush and it made a big impression on me.

For a day hunt I'll bring a snickers or two, a bag of jerky, some trail mix, a few granola bars, and a sandwich. I'll snack most of the day but usually won't even eat half of what I take.
When I'm heading out for a few days I'll bring all of the same things plus a few Mountain House freeze dried meals. They're light, easy to make, and taste pretty good.

I love to sit on a hillside and eat some kipper'd snacks which are caned fish fillets (they are sort of like sardines) on a CLUB brand cracker. Then follow it with a nice juicy pear and a snickers. Water to wash it down. Can't beat it on the hill. Good protein content and a little natural sugar.
Making the swtich to the strick and string! Watch out!
