2009 Parker Mountain Antelope

Post by cwp » Wed Sep 23, 2009 1:02 pm

Sorry it has taken me a few days to post the pics/story of my wife's antelope hunt. She drew out for the Parker Mountain area. Needless to say there are PLENTY of antelope in the area with plenty of opportunity to view the animals. With the early and late hunts being combined this year there were a ton of people and therefore a lot of pressure on the animals opening day. We hunted with DeadI and were led to the right spot. Opening morning Melissa had her first shot. It was a nice tall buck with decent mass. Melissa had never hunted with a rifle before and was shaking so bad that she could not get the scope where it needed to be. She missed this animal and was quite upset about the experience. Sunday we had to take our kids back to stay with grandma and go to school. It rained from Sunday afternoon and didnt stop until Tuesday morning. This was not just a little bit of rain either. We were in a torrential downpour! Tuesday morning we went to a new area and she was able to connect with a decent buck. Size may not tell you it is a trophy, but to Melissa it was worth the work and the smell afterwards.ImageImageWe even found a few turkeys while we were down there!Image

Congrats on a nice goat. I was also on Parker Mt this year and there were quite a few folks running around. Still saw more antelope than people though so I'd call it a great hunt. In your hunting or scouting did you ever see any really great bucks? We didn't see any, just plenty of nice bucks like the ones we took simialar to your wifes buck. --shooter

We saw a handful that were really nice. Heavier and longer than my wifes, but the majority were in the same class.

Melissa congrats again on the speed goat, wish we could have been there when it finaly came together.

I love that place down there. If anyone else draws that tag and is in need of a free guide to show you around, you won't have to twist my arm.

Congrats on the goat!
I'll be going out with the wife tomorrow. It will be her first hunt as well.
