270 win

Post by captainemil » Thu Nov 03, 2011 10:13 am

Got a new Remington 700 in a 270 Win with a 22" barrel 1 in 10 twist, The question is can I get 3000 fps with a 150 gr Berger, or that ain't going to happen ?

I believe that there is no way that you can reach those velocities within the pressure specs set for the 270 win. I think that tis is more of a mainstream velocity for the 270 Weatherby, or WSM cartridge. I would not try to reach that velocity with a 150 in a 270win.----------SS

1+ for SS.

2900 fps is about tops for 150's especially with a 22" tube you are probably looking at 2850. But I guess my question would be: Why is 3000 fps your magic number?

You are probably only talking about 4" difference in elevation between 3000 and 2850 fps at 500 yards.

Magpro lists 3k fps with a 150gr bullet, with a 24" barrel. Try the accurate powder website. I havent gotten outstanding accuracy with magpro, but every rifle is different.

I agree with southwind...speed is not accuracy
