Rifle Hunting the Rut - Strategies?

Hi All,
My brother drew out for an elk hunt near Mt Pleasant, UT. I have been in this place once before and it has some good herds and nice elk. We will be the first hunters on the property on Sept 20th. If all goes well we should land in the middle of the rut.

We are novice elk hunters and I started to wonder what the best rifle/rut strategy is the best. We will obviously glass first and see how that goes, but what if we hear a bull hiding out in the pines? Do we setup outside the openings and try to draw him out, post a caller down low and the shooter up high, or do we drive in like a bow hunt? I would love to hear your opinions.
Thanks,
Sid

I prefer to put the shooter between the caller and the bull where he can get a shot off as the bull is coming in. Typically (for me anyway) they will pull up just out of sight from the caller and then try to work their way down wind so they can figure out what they are dealing with. Lot's of options when you have a the benefit of the rut during a rifle hunt.
