I haven't seen any like the deer on this site. When I went to and elk show one spring I saw a couple that had some extra points and a couple that had a third main beam but never one that had points just going everywhere.

My brother in law shot a 7x11 elk 2 years ago, it was palmated and was the strangest elk most people have ever seen. Given all of the length and points it only scored 220 but it was strange. We had the DOW and other researchers take a look at it and no one has an answer, might have been running around the powerplant in craig too many times?

A few years back Ridgetop shot a "strange" elk. Maybe he'll share a picture of the antlers. It was a really young bull, but would have been interesting to see when it got older.

Killer, after you posted this thread I started doin' my usual research and I cannot find anything (Or any pictures) on "cactus bulls".

As you know, non-typical bulls are not necessarily cactus bulls (Abnormal growth verses testosterone imbalance).

I'm sure there are bulls out there that suffer the same afflictions as cactus bucks (Damaged testicals or internal testosterone imbalance) but I cannot find any. Common sense would lead me to believe that since antler growth between elk and deer is the same and that the triggers to grow antlers, harden antlers, shed velvet, and then shed antlers are the same with both species, then "cactus males" would/could occur in either species, wouldn't you agree?

They are to tall the get their boys hung up on the fence. :))

Maybe that is why you don't see many elk that way. :-k
