Wyoming Elk Hunt for Wife

Post by cowslayer » Sun Dec 30, 2007 1:38 am

All,

My wife has 2 pref pts in Wyoming for Elk. She wants to kill a 6 pt bull in the next couple of years. I am not opposed to paying tresspass fees or hiring a guide, would prefer to Do It Ourselves though. Where can she put in for to draw a tag in the next year or two that she will have a good chance of killing a decent bull?

Thanks CS 4c

CS, Units 30, 31 or 32 are good units with lots of public ground. Tough draw but definately has the 6 pointer you and the bride are looking for.

I'll second Hiker on that one. Definately the units with the most public land access. I know several guys that have hunted 30 & 31 before with the smallest bull being about 320ish and the biggest in the 340 range.

I had looked at those and will just keep putting in for one of them until we draw. Any preference on the 2 units? Feel free to PM me on which one would be more conducive to producing a good bull.

Would you put in together or should we put in seperate???

How goes the archery hunt on this unit?

Thanks CS

I think they would all be a great draw. I would do a group app, as it won't hurt your odds. I believe most of the elk are resident herds, so archery would be great. If you draw, let me know, I have a friend or two that have hunted 30,31 in the last few years.

Chris,
Both of the the bulls my buddies killed were archery kills. They had a lot of opportunity on other bulls with many blown stalks and close calls. They both say it was one of the funnest archery hunts they have done. Exactly the reason I am building points. They both went into the hunt with the idea of archery hunting it to scout and then return later with the rifles. That obviously didn't happen.

I hunted with a guy in 32 last year and a lot of elk but hard to find anything with any size. He killed a 300 class bull, but killed early. I hunted unit 30 with a guy two years ago and saw a lot better bulls. He killed a 350 class with no problem and saw plenty in that class. I would stick with 30 or 31.

I drew unit 30 with my two boys. I will try to hunt with archery equipment before the rifle season, any ideas on this unit?
