Deer with my Son

I told my 10 year old son Jaxon, "It's just a doe". He says, "Shoot it Dad please!". After taking him on an unsuccessful antelope hunt last year he was really anxious to see success. I probably asked him 5 times as the doe stared at me from just off the dirt road if he really wanted me to kill a doe and he continually said, "yes, please shoot it!!!". He would not relent so I ranged the clueless doe at 37 yards, drew, squeezed and double lunged her. She ran away and piled within 30 yards. My son was very excited and even more so when he found the bloody arrow and then first blood. He said it was like an Easter egg hunt but cooler. I know it's not as exciting as killing a buck, that'll be reserved for my Colorado Muley hunt in November, but I have been anxious to get him hooked. He couldn't care less that it was a doe and we will both remember the experience forever! I love hunting. :thumb

Oh yeah, the meat taste awesome!

So cool. What a great experience for you and your son to share. You can tell he was proud to be a part of it.....from field to table. Good luck on your CO hunt!

Thanks guys. To me, this sort of thing is what it's all about. Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of it when we are always consumed with chasing 'the big one'. Which is awesome and has its place, but this sort of experience is what got all of us hooked in the first place. And passing on the love of hunting is a major concern for me. This was a good step toward that end.

He will remember that for a long time and memories are more important than horns.
