Son's First Deer
Son's First Deer
Well, after several attempts of trying to get my 12 year old son, Cody, close enough to a Blacktail deer (antlerless and/or buck) he finally made it all come together this morning. He made a perfect double lung shot on a button buck (technically an antlerless deer/ 1.5" spikes) at 40 yards (his max range). I was amazed to see his arrow pass completely through the little buck and bury itself in the dirt, as he only draws 33 lbs. Goes to prove a well placed arrow and traditional style, 2-bladed head, is the way to go for ulitmate penetration.
He was VERY happy, as he had endured many long hikes and blown opportunities this year in tough dry conditions. But today was celebratory for him with a few "field cleaning" chores he was now responsible for.
The deer wasn't that big being a yearling buck......reminded me of a coues, but you couldn't tell from Cody's enthusiasm.......he was one pumped little man! Anyway, hope you enjoy the photos. For those who have experienced this with their kids, I now know how you feel......it's awesome.
