Nevada mule deer help

Post by Joe » Tue Dec 11, 2007 12:20 pm

I'm trying to get my hunts lined out for this year and was wondering if any one could steer me in the right direction regarding a remote high country unit that has some nice mulies? I figure it will take me a couple of years to draw a tag, but I have never hunted that country and have no idea where to start? Thank you....Joe :)

Don't be counting your self out before the hunts even start I have hunted Nevada the last 4 out of 5 years I drew a rifle tag five years ago then then drew a blank one year and have had A tag ever since the last 3 being archery,I have hunted area 10,6and 17 all great units for high country hunting. The last 3 tags have been left over resident tags in units that didnt fill in the first draw.
As far as where to go its all up to you but I would recommend trying to stick to one area year after year and learn to pattern one unit instead of trying a new spot like i have been doing. It will save you lots of time in the long run and fuel, every unit I have seen has big bucks but by the time we learn the unit its time to head home. The pic attached is of three of at least 75 bucks I saw on last years hunt.I also went on a muzzy hunt with a friend we saw 16 bucks in one day just a half hour walk from the truck,he has drawn a tag the last 2 years of applying good luck.

THANK YOU 6X7 I really appreciate that. May I ask which unit you might recommend for a bowhunter? Those were great bucks. :thumb

From what I have seen in the units i have hunted area 10 is the best back pack hunt there is we hiked in 5 or 6 miles and saw plenty of deer 10 to 25 bucks a day.The weather would change in a second so be prepared ,rain real high winds lightning then sunny all in 1 hour.Your odds are the best for getting a tag there also so you can plan on hunting there almost every year.

You should be able to get an area 10 archery tag every year. Also area 7 is almost a sure thing. Both of these areas usually have left over tags after the first drawing and residents and nonresidents are put into the same drawing on the second go around. Last year I didn't draw a tag in the first drawing in which I put in for muzzleloader and rifle choices. The second drawing had left over archery tags in area 10 and seven. I had never shot a bow but decided that I did not want to go a whole year without hunting so I bought a bow and put in for the second drawing knowing that my chance for a tag was almost 100%. Well I got the tag and took my best buck ever. But to get past my excitement and back to the question, if you put in for an archery tag in Nevada's area 10, be ready to hunt because your gonna draw that tag. fatrooster.
