I hate when this happens

Post by nuttinbutchunks » Tue Jan 01, 2008 4:50 pm

Actually, it's the first time I've done this. Has anybody else ruined an arrow like this? My kids say Myth Busters (On Discovery Channel) busted it as a myth. :-k

Shoot enough arrows and it's bound to happen isn't it? Pretty cool still!

the one that the mythbusters tested was for wooden arrows i think because of the whole robin hood deal

I've done it with aluminum. Aluminum is kind of cool because of the way it unravels in a weird pattern that you wouldn't expect.

The Mythbusters episode was trying to prove that Robin Hood could have done it with wooden arrows. They determined that it wasn't possible to split one all the way from the nock to the target, because the wood grain always made the arrow break before it went to full length of the arrow.

Here is a photo of one I did with my Gold tips last year. I have only had it happen twice.

Dang, M4E, that's a train wreck there. It's expensive, but it does make one feel good to shoot that well, ..... I guess.

The myth is (Iv'e seen the episode), that you can split an arrow evenly completely end to end with traditional wooden arrows. Youy know, the robin hood shot from the movies. What happens is that the broadhead follows the grain of the wood, which is impossible to go evenly from end to end. They even tried it with bamboo arrows.

Yeah... what your thinking is right... I'm a geek. But I'm a bowhunting geek.
