How do you carry it?

Post by sneekeepete » Tue Mar 08, 2011 7:28 am

With a little more time on my hands I thought I'd ask you all a question I got to thinking about. I have begun carrying my extra bullets in my pack in the box. I no longer have a ammo pouch on my belt or the stock of my gun so they are readily available. I have done this the past two seasons. It personally helps me force myself to take better shots and not rush myself because once my 4 shots are up I have to dig through the pack to get to more bullets. As of this point I have never had to reload to put an animal down or keep trying.
So where do you carry your extra shells?

I have a butler creek sling on my wby that holds 4 extra bullets.
so i have 3 in the gun + 1 in the pipe (depending on the moment) 4 on the sling, and i've always had a habbit of putting 2 in my front pocket of my pants.

i cant remember a time that i've had to reload my gun for the animal i started shooting at, well excluding the early teenage years lol
but those first 4 better be enough or i'm done and headed back to camp to see whats wrong with my scope.

Ammo manufacturers make carring cases that hold around ten. They are plastic, thin, and light weight. I carry around three of them so 30 extra round in my pack or side pocket..

I carry them in a styrofoam factory box so they don't rattle in my pack.

I use something very close to this:

Mine is not leather but you get the idea. No rattling and I have ten extra rounds that fit easily into my fanny pack when hunting.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.

For my 30 ought I carry one in the chamber three in the clip. Thats it. For some reason I haven't figured out yet I do keep a box in camp if it's more than a 2 day hunt.

One five round magazine in the bolt action rifle and at least one ten round magazine in my pocket in case it's needed.
