Weekend trip! WARNING: PIC HEAVY!
My dad and I took a weekend trip to Southern Utah.
FRIDAY
We get to were we decided to be about an hour before sun down. We headed out for a short hike about a mile loop. First shed of the trip was a small four point, sadly the G3 and G4 were broken!
The next shed was just a small 2 point. He then glassed on the hill in front of him and spotted a nice little 4 point. Now it was about dark so we headed back to the truck. The first 3 sheds are the 2 top and the bottom ones on the right side.
SATURDAY
First thing in the morning, we woke up at 6:30 and ate our breakfast. We headed out and my dad found the first shed of the morning (the three point on the right side of the pic above). We hiked about another mile and I found my first shed of the trip. I found that shed about 100 yards from our truck. We drove a couple miles down the road and seen a bench that looked pretty good to look for sheds on so we parked and headed out. We got about a half mile in and hadn't seen any deer sign and were about to head back when my dad spots a shed 3/4 of a mile away and we knew that if he could see it in the bino's from that far it was big enough to cross the huge gorge to get to it. We got about 1/2 of a mile still to go when I took this pic. When we were about to the bottom of the gorge my dad spotted the 3 point horn that is on the bottom of the left side on the first picture. When we picked that one up we found a deer leg and then found where a lion had killed and fed on the deer. My dad said oh it was just a doe. He bent down to tie his shoe and about 4 feet to his right this head was laying there. TO BE CONTINUED

Re: Weekend trip! WARNING: PIC HEAVY!
Of course we were in Utah so we had to leave it behind (if it had been big enough we would have called the fish and game and had them come check it out). We headed up the hill and found one of the biggest 3 point horns that I have ever seen!
We decided we had better look for the other side so we started hiking around on that hill when i the little 3 point that is on the top of the left side on the very first picture of my post. It has a big piece of skull on it and we believe that the buck was fighting with a bigger buck and the horn had broken off with some of skull plate. We searched and searched and couldn't find the other side. We headed back to the truck, which was a lot of up and down considering we swung around and had to encounter numerous draws. We were headed to find another place and when we got about 50 yards from where we had slept and we were driving down the road when I seen a four point that was lying about 20 feet off the road. We walked down that same stretch of road the night before when we were headed back and had walked 10 feet past it but it was so dark it would have been nearly impossible to see it. That was the last shed that we found for that trip.
HERE IS ANOTHER COUPLE PICTURES OF MY BIG BROWN We are hoping to go back next year and maybe find the other sides to the big browns when they are white.
That is a Yukon XL for size.We decided we had better look for the other side so we started hiking around on that hill when i the little 3 point that is on the top of the left side on the very first picture of my post. I am not point a finger, just asking for clarification; isn't it illegal to take an antler with any attached skull plate? I have not ever done the shed hunting, but have heard rumor of that. Thanks for sharing!

I have heard that also but wasn't sure, we didn't even think about it being part of the skull until we were pulled into town and I was looking at it.Huge29 wrote:I am not point a finger, just asking for clarification; isn't it illegal to take an antler with any attached skull plate?
